Officially, it’s at The Village at
Glen Mary in Beech Grove. A person more familiar with the area would say, down 151, south of Nellysford, at the turn-off for
Wintergreen at Route 664, behind Devil’s Backbone Brewery. That’s where you’ll find Java Depot.
Why depot? Because the building is a genuine historic railroad depot, transported to Rockfish
Valley by someone who had the good sense to relocate it rather than scrap it. The building is the old Arrington train depot,
built in 1870 to replace a depot which had been burned down during the Late Hostilities between the States. The original depot
was built entirely out of heart pine. Its large overhangs served well in protecting the structure, which was used as a depot
until around 1915, when a newer depot was built. Many changes were made to the interior as the old depot was used by a variety
of local businesses. From 1961 to 1982, it housed the Arrington Post Office, and since then has been privately owned. The
building was moved to its present location in 2007.

The depot became Java Depot at the inspiration
of co-owners Nancy Kern and Richard Boyd, a multitalented married couple who enjoy good food, good music, and the beauty of
Nelson County.
